What to expect

Cyber-Counselling
All clinical services are provided virtually by telephone or through a secured clinical platform for telehealth (video) sessions through Jane App.

I can provide counselling services to you anywhere in the province of BC using technology.

E-Mental Health is the use of any form of technology to provide counselling services. Benefits can include: Physical Distancing: we can meet safely without being in the same room. Convenience: We can meet from the comfort of your home or any other location without a need for you to travel to an office. Effectiveness: Research shows that virtual services are as effective as in-person.

Clinical Counselling/General Counselling
Evidence-based counselling for clinical mental health diagnoses including but not limited to Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders, Trauma-and Stressor Related-Disorders, Somatic Disorders, Gender Dysphoria, and Other Mental Health Disorders. General counselling can be beneficial for non-clinical concerns including separation/divorce, life changes and transitions, self-esteem, workplace stress, and other challenges and concerns.

EMDR
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a therapeutic modality that is an experiential therapy as opposed to a talking therapy. It is used to help reduce the impact of experiences from the past that intrude on your present day life. These experiences may include trauma such as an assault, accident, or natural disaster. EMDR has also been used to help people deal with anxiety, panic, recent events such as the loss of a pet, reactions to physical illness, chronic pain, grief, and many other difficulties. EMDR is helpful for adults as well as children and youth.

I use RemotEMDR as a platform for virtual EMDR treatment.

Where to look
EMDR

First, we work together to collect basic information and history about you, your history and experiences, and what is happening for you now. This may take 1 or 2 sessions. Then, we construct a description of your problem that includes an image or picture that represents the past event, your negative beliefs about yourself in relation to the event, how you want to think about yourself in relation to the event (positive belief), your associated emotions with the event, and your physical sensations. You will also be asked to give a numerical rating to your level of upset as well as how true the positive thoughts feel.
A typical session is 60-90 minutes and you go through the process of moving your eyes, pausing and reflecting several times during the session. Typically, the images, emotions, and sensations you experience change as you progress.
This is a brief and simplified overview. I have provided some links below.
